Warning: Another whiny post.

So. You know what really sucks. BEING ASIAN. I'm not being racist or anything. I know heritage, pride, etc etc.

But the fact of the matter is, most musicals are written for white people. There are a few that are Asian-specific (Miss Saigon, The King and I, etc), but on the whole, European/American/WHITE.

All the musicals I think about and dream about and want with all my heart to be a part of. Les Mis - French. Next to Normal - American. Rent - Spanish girl, black girl, black guy, no Asian. Chess - American/Russian. Spring Awakening - German.

I am so effing sick of this.

  2. I'M DELURRRKING!

I definitely know what you mean though, Sharon ): I feel kind of like we should try to push the borders, and while Oz is multicultural and all ... in the end... they still stick to the races the characters are meant to be. They can only bend a storyline/character so much, y'know?

And that's just depressing. I mean, don't get me wrong, Miss Saigon's a fair enough musical, but it doesn't have the oomph of some of the other musicals that are csst for Caucasians. I DON'T LIKE being typecast as a squidgy little asian.

I'll WHINE WHINE WHINE too ): Like you have to be absolutely brain smashing Aaron Tveit amazing [he's now an adjective] to like ... to like, get much anywhere with our race, unless you get some major kick like Miss Saigon/asians in Glee did.

I want them to look past the skin colour ): Oh, and all those musicals you listed -- SHARON YOU ARE FAR MORE AMAZING THAN ANYONE GIVES YOU CREDIT FOR :D

  3. @Golduck: I know and that's what I'm trying to tell myself, but I am having the feeling that you know, appearances do matter in performance =/

@Viv: Squidgy little Asian? xD And thank you <3

  4. Does it rly matter? Look at The Last Airbender. And...that Japanese fighting movie, I can't remember what. They were supposed to be Asians, but a different race was cast. And the Karate Kid? That Jayden guy hardly resembles the original Daniel-san.

My point is, they don't HAVE to cast whites all the time. I do see your point and unfortunately do agree, but race shouldn't be something to get you down. You're better than that, and you'll manage to be a part of one of those musicals somehow, and then work your way upwards. <3

  5. See, those are all non-Asians playing Asian parts. =/

But I just found out the guy who played Angel in the Hollywood Bowl production of Rent is Asian.

    And thank you <3
